Air India is significantly bolstering its presence in the Canadian aviation market by deploying its latest Boeing 787-9 aircraft on key routes to Toronto. This strategic fleet upgrade introduces modern cabin amenities to Canadian travelers, replacing older configurations and ensuring a standardized, premium passenger experience across the airline's long-haul network. According to Aviation Source News, this transition is particularly timely as the airline positions itself as the primary non-stop carrier between India and Canada, following the scheduled cessation of wide-body operations by competitor IndiGo.
In addition to the fleet upgrades, Air India is set to launch a seasonal non-stop service connecting Mumbai and Toronto. Operating three times weekly from October 25, 2026, through March 26, 2027, this route will utilize upgraded Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. These planes feature an enhanced three-class cabin layout, including private First Class suites, lie-flat Business Class seating, and modernized Economy cabins. The introduction of this route is expected to provide an additional 2,000 seats per week, serving the high demand for connectivity between the two nations during the holiday travel period.
The airline's expansion plan aims to increase total seat capacity on Canada-bound routes by 4,400 seats per month, with a notable 71 percent surge in premium seating availability. By January 2027, the carrier intends to have its upgraded cabin product installed across all Toronto flights, solidifying its commitment to long-haul luxury and convenience. Through its primary hubs, passengers will benefit from improved connectivity to secondary Indian cities, including Ahmedabad, Chennai, and Hyderabad, further streamlining travel for those visiting family and friends during the winter season.
