Devon County Council and Torbay Council have officially moved forward with an expansive plan to bolster the local electric vehicle infrastructure. The local authorities have selected Believ, char.gy, and Wenea to manage the deployment of approximately 3,000 public charging points across the region. This initiative represents a significant push to accommodate the growing number of electric vehicles on British roads and addresses the need for better access to reliable charging options for residents and visitors alike.

According to electrive, the ambitious project is underpinned by a total financial commitment of £38 million. This capital is composed of an £8 million injection from the government's Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund, which is being augmented by roughly £30 million in private sector investment. By combining public grants with private resources, the councils aim to expedite the installation process, with work scheduled to commence within the coming months.

This rollout is expected to substantially enhance the density of the charging network in the Southwest, particularly in areas where public infrastructure has previously lagged. By diversifying the provider base to include firms like Believ, char.gy, and Wenea, the councils hope to leverage specialized technology to provide a range of charging solutions that meet the varied needs of regional motorists.
