Petrobras reached a significant production milestone in the second quarter of 2026, achieving a record output of 3.34 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (MMboed). This result represents a 14.1% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to Oil & Gas 360, highlighting the efficacy of the firm’s intensified focus on pre-salt development within the Santos basin. Operational improvements across the company's broader offshore portfolio were essential in driving these gains, which successfully negated the natural decline rates observed at older assets.
The growth was further accelerated by the introduction of 10 new wells, split between the Santos and Campos basins. A major contributor to this performance was the Búzios field, which reached a monthly average production of 1 million barrels per day (bpd) in June. The field’s overall output climbed past 1.2 million bpd by late June, largely due to the successful deployment of the P-78 and P-79 floating production units. The P-79 unit in particular outperformed expectations, entering service five months ahead of the original business plan schedule and achieving full gas injection capabilities within just 56 days of initial oil flow.
Additional production support came from the ramp-up of the FPSO Maria Quitéria in the Jubarte field and the FPSO Alexandre de Gusmão in the Mero field. While new infrastructure captured the majority of the headlines, mature hubs such as Tupi, Sépia, and Atapu remained stable contributors to the company’s portfolio. With a consolidated focus on maximizing capacity at existing and new installations, Petrobras continues to solidify its position as a dominant force in deepwater oil extraction.
