Somon Air has reached a significant milestone in its operational history by taking delivery of its inaugural Boeing 737-8 aircraft. This addition marks the first time a 737 MAX series jet has entered service within Tajikistan. The aircraft was acquired through a leasing agreement with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE), which is slated to provide a total of two such jets to the airline. According to Aviation Source News, this deployment is a fundamental component of the carrier's broader strategy to modernize its fleet and broaden its international presence across Central Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

Company leadership emphasized that the enhanced range and superior fuel efficiency of the 737-8 provide the necessary flexibility to serve high-demand routes more effectively. Somon Air plans to leverage these capabilities to establish new connections to major global hubs, including London, Beijing, and Guangzhou. The 737-8 model is recognized for its versatility, featuring a range of approximately 3,500 nautical miles and the ability to accommodate up to 210 passengers, depending on cabin configuration.

From an environmental and operational standpoint, the transition to the 737 MAX family represents a substantial upgrade. The airline expects to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by 20 percent compared to the older aircraft the new models are replacing. DAE, which maintains a portfolio containing over 190 aircraft from the 737 MAX family, expressed its commitment to supporting Somon Air as it continues to grow its network and enhance its competitive position in the regional aviation market.
