The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) has officially launched the construction of two major facilities in Dar es Salaam, marking a pivotal shift in the revitalization of the cross-border rail network. The project, supported by a public-private partnership with CCECC, includes a specialized training center and a central operations control hub. These structures are designed to address core challenges currently facing the 1,860 km network, which links Tanzania and Zambia, by focusing on human capital development and digitized system management.

According to Railway Gazette, the new training center will feature classrooms, laboratories, and office spaces intended to foster localized technical and managerial expertise. Funded with support from the Chinese government, this facility aims to facilitate technology transfer, ensuring that local staff are equipped to maintain and operate the modernized railway infrastructure sustainably. Simultaneously, the operations control center will serve as the backbone of the network, centralizing command functions to improve communication between trains and stations, thereby enhancing overall safety and operational transparency.

Government officials noted that the groundbreaking ceremony on July 17 signifies the transition of the revitalization plan from theoretical strategy to practical execution. The initiative aims to drive tangible improvements in transit times, asset utilization, and financial stability. By integrating these systems, TAZARA intends to foster a culture of operational discipline, which is seen as a prerequisite for elevating customer service standards and ensuring the long-term reliability of this vital regional transport corridor.
